Students will study revised textbooks of National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) from the academic session 2018-19 as the council has already started work on revising the text of its books. However, there won't be any major changes in the book, except addition of the new tax regime GST.

The council has received more than 900 suggestions from various quarters including teachers, academicians and various organisations. They are in the process of analysing the changes, and will implement the suggested changes before the commencement of the next session. The books that they will deliver through the newly launched portal will be revised books which will be delivered before the beginning of the new session.

"There are three ways in which we are going to revise textbooks — updation, correction and addition. Chapters on GST will be added since it is a new tax regime and students of commerce need to know about it," said NCERT Director Hrushikesk Sanapathy.

Sources in the council said that no major changes like changing the history or language will be executed in the books. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar had also assured in the Parliament that nothing will be removed from the textbooks.

The council had early this year invited suggestions on revising its textbooks after there was a discussion that the school syllabus is not in tune with the existing changes in subjects and has not been revised for a long time.
