Naxal, Sabyasachi Panda should face justice for his crimes, says BJD leader Jay Panda

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Jay Panda, on Friday expressed hope that reportedly arrested Naxalite leader Sabyasachi Panda would face the law for his crimes.

"He has been wanted for a very long time for many years. He has been involved in several kidnappings and other acts of violence, in Odisha and in bordering states. I hope that this information is accurate, it was long pending. He should face justice just like anybody else," the BJD leader said.

Last night, Odisha Police reportedly confirmed the arrest of Panda from the state's Ganjam District.

Panda had been on the run for over a decade and faces over 30 charges of murder, including that of VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati and his four disciples in Kandhamal in 2008. He had also abducted two Italian tourists in 2012.

Security forces today apprehended top Maoist commander Sabysachi Panda from Berhampore in Odisha. Officials said the top Naxal leader was held after inputs were received by security agencies on his movement. Two aides of Panda, Dedy alias Samasan Mallick (25) and his associate Aruan Sonamaji (22) had surrendered to the police in Ganjam district in Souther Odisha in November 2012. Read more
