Naveen Patnaik seeks cooperation for success of model village programme propagated by Modi

Seeking cooperation of all for making the model village programme successful, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday called upon people from all walks of live to apply their mind and heart to improve the standard of living of rural people.

"Let us all join hands and together script a glorious saga of transformation of our state," Patnaik said while addressing a workshop on Model Villagers for Good Governance.

Stating that good governance constituted the core of the state's vision and essence of development strategy, Patnaik said "Our sustained efforts for good governance have produced ample opportunities for growth and development in the state.

We have displayed high economic growth, massive infrastructure and industrial development and noticeable changes in a host of other sectors like health and education." However, rural development and upliftment of people living in villages have always remained a priority, he said adding development in rural areas must be accelerated by convergence and synchronisation of our developmental policy and programmes. 

Claiming that some strategic initiatives for various weaker sections of the society have brought about significant changes in the lives of millions, the Chief Minister said Mission Shakti has been in a silent revolution in empowering the women of the state and has helped elevate more than five million women with better socio-economic opportunities.

Similarly an array of initiatives for farmers and farming sectors such as improved access to water, high yielding variety of seeds, fertilisers, credit at marginal interest rates and providing marketing opportunities have succeeded in benefiting our farmers, Patnaik said.

Likewise, the Biju Setu Yojana for rural connectivity, rural electrification programme, farmers' insurance scheme, social security to disadvantaged sections and a host of other development and welfare projects have transformed rural life considerably, he said. "It is indisputable that for sustainable development, we need environment friendly inclusive development approach.

The Model Village programme will serve this purpose by leveraging the synergies of our existing and future programmes and will bring in the community of citizens, public representatives, corporates and academia to the centrestage," he said.

The workshop was also attended by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahoo, Chief Secretary G C Pati and others.
