A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), led by a DSP rank officer, reached Munger to commence its investigation into the multistate arms smuggling racket and its links with Maoists and terrorists, the police said on Monday.

A police source said the NIA team met the Munger Superintendent of Police Babu Ram, who shared the details of the six cases lodged in the district in connection to the recovery of 20 AK-47s and more than 500 spare parts from Mirzapur-Bardah village since August 29.

"Around 15 persons – arms dealers, smugglers and buyers have been arrested in connection with the case so far. The NIA sleuths will interrogate them too and probe a probable terror angle in the case," he said.

"The documents and other evidences will be transferred to the NIA once they formally take over the case. Other sister agencies are also looking into the financial aspects related to the case," he added.
