A delegation of National Conference leaders from Jammu has been granted permission by the government to meet party chief Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, both of whom are currently under detention.

On Thursday, the NC leaders had written a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik requesting him to allow them to visit Srinagar to meet both their party leaders.

Party's Jammu president Devender Rana, who was released from house arrest on Wednesday, said they have received confirmation regarding the permission.

"Today, we've got the confirmation that a delegation will be allowed to meet Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. A 15-member delegation of NC leaders, all of them former legislators, is going to Srinagar tomorrow (Sunday) morning," he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Rana had said, "We have written to Governor Satya Pal Malik requesting the delegations of National Conference leaders to go to Srinagar to meet Farooq Abdullah, who is unfortunately detained under National Security Act (NSA), and Omar Abdullah."

While Farooq Abdullah, 81, is under house arrest at his Srinagar residence, his son and former Chief Minister Omar is detained at a state guest house.

After the Central government decided to revoke the special constitutional status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) under Article 370 two months ago, the region was placed under a communications blockade and several mainstream political leaders, including the father-son duo and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti were put under house arrest.

Besides Rana, several other leaders were released from house arrest ahead of Block Development Council (BDC) Panchayat elections. The polls are scheduled to take place on October 7.
