Accusing PDP-BJP government of pursuing anti-people policies, the main Opposition National Conference on Saturday called upon the women of the state to unite and supplement the fight against the ruling coalition.

"This trend has serious ramifications for unity, single entity of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The people in general and women in particular must see through the game-plan of PDP and BJP and foil their sinister machinations by maintaining peace and strengthening regional bonhomie" NC's Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said.

Addressing a day-long women convention at party headquarters here this afternoon Rana accused the ruling coalition of working towards weakening the single entity of Jammu and Kashmir.

The convention organised by former legislator and senior NC leader Bimla Luthra, deliberated over issues pertaining to women and ways and means to carve out big role for them in the political arena.

"Unity in diversity is real strength of this state which can only grow and flourish when all segments of society are given equal opportunities of progress", Rana said.

He urged the NC rank and file to gear up for the upcoming civic polls.

"NC had pioneered 33% reservation for women in grass root level of democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir and time has now come to open up more vistas for them," he said.

Rana lauded the productive role of women in politics and said the day is not far when they will excel in this field as well like they are doing in academics and other spheres of life and added that empowerment of women will lead to emancipation of the society at large.

"NC has espoused the cause of women, strove for freeing them from the shackles of ignorance by promoting female literacy and generating opportunities in employment and other activities", he said.
