Nashik Police have arrested three suspects in case of murder of Surendra Shejwal. According to police, Surendra Shejwal was found murdered on January 20, 2017 at around 9 PM near Triveni Park, Nashik road. Shejwal who was riding a two wheeler was hit by a brown coloured car while he was on the road. He fell down after which four persons are said to have attacked him with sharp weapons and left him dead in a pool of blood. A case was filed against 5-6 unidentified accused.

Initially the case was assumed to be a fallout of political happenings as earlier Surendra Shejwal was a part of MNS and his mother had even fought the by-elections last year on the party ticket. Surendra had recently joined the Shiv Sena and was aspiring to contest the Nashik Municipal Corporation elections.

On preliminary investigations police had clarified that that there is no political angle to the incident and it has occurred due to past rivalry. Anil Digrajkar, the prime suspect, and Surendra Shejwal were in conflict with each other after a case of murder of Digrajkar’s brother was filed against Surendra in the past.

The brewing conflict was seen in August 2016 when Surendra’s mother was contesting the elections, Digrajkarand and his friends had started a quarrel with the mother. Angry about this Surendra and his friends had threatened to kill Digrajkar and his friends. Counter cases to these effect were filed at Nashik road police station. There have been six cases, most of them serious offences against Surendra since 2006.

While the police were investigating the case, on January 24, 2017 they got information that the vehicle used by suspects was seen in Shirdi area.  A police team rushed to Shirdi and spoted the said vehicle at Dhonde phata near Shirdi. They stopped the vehicle and one of the officials recognised Anil Digrajkar in the car. The other two were Rambhau Chavan and Rahul Gotarne, both suspects in the same case. The three were taken into custody and brought to Nashik. The vehicle has been confiscated and three people have been arrested, stated DCP Shrikant Dhivre.

“There is no political connection to the case and investigations reveal that the murder is a fall out of past rivalry between the two persons”, DCP Dhivre stated.
