Nashik: 19-year-old tries to launder tiger skin, falls in police trap

Police has confiscated tiger skin and further investigations are on.

In an attempt to sell tiger skin, a 19-year-old boy was arrested by Sarkarwada police in Nashik on Tuesday. Omkar Aher has been identified as a resident of Kamod Nagar and is studying at a polytechnic college in Nashik.

According to Sarkarwada police, the boy was in possession of a tiger skin which he wanted to sell. The police then set a trap and called him to Big Bazaar on College Road in Nashik, where he tried to sell the skin for Rs 25 lakh and was arrested.

Initially, police filed a case of cheating. However, after investigation, the charges were filed under Wildlife protection act. The furred skin was found in a bag in his house. The bag was later sealed by the police.

"The boy confessed that he's had the tiger skin in his possession since a long time. He had found it in his old house, a wada, in the old Nashik area. His friends provoked him to sell this valuable item in order to earn a lot of money," said PSI Sonawane.

The tiger skin has been confiscated by the police and further investigations are on.
