Narrow escape for passengers as bus catches fire on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

No one was injured in the incident.

Passengers travelling from Mumbai to Pune in a private transport bus had a narrow escape when the vehicle suddenly caught fire on Friday night. The incident took place on the Mumbai-Pune lane of the expressway at around 11 pm. Though no passenger was hurt, traffic movement on the expressway was halted for some time while the fire was being doused. 

According to passengers, the private transport bus left Mumbai at around 8 pm. However, when it neared the Amrutanjan bridge, the bus broke down.The driver detected smoke coming out from the engine and asked passengers to get down from the bus. 
 
Avnee Joshi Jena, one of the passengers travelling in the bus told DNA, "All of us managed to get out of the bus just in time. While we were standing at a safe distance, we saw fire engulfing the entire bus."
 
Sub inspector Sachin Shinde of Khandala police station who was at the spot said, "We had stopped traffic movement on both directions for half an hour as a precautionary measure. We will be contacting regional transport officials to inspect the bus to find the cause of the fire and further action will be taken."
