Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to make his 66th birthday special by spending time with his mother, tribals, and the differently abled (divyangs).

After spending 25 minutes with his mother at her Gandhinagar residence, the PM arrived at the Limkheda town of Dahod district, where he addressed tribals and inaugurated a Rs 4,800-crore water supply project for the parched region.

Praising tribals for their contribution to the 1857 revolt against British Raj, he said: "Tribals from this land of Govind Guru have made unmatched contribution during the 1857 revolt. I pay my tributes. One must not forget that tribals from Dahod have struggled for more than a century. The history of India's freedom struggle is incomplete without their mention," Modi said at Limkheda.

"Tribals in this region are forced to migrate to other parts of the state as they are unable to engage in farming for want of adequate irrigation facilities. I understood the region's requirement for water, back when I was the state's CM," Modi said. Chief minister Vijay Rupani was also present at the event.

The PM also attended a camp which saw the distribution of around 17,000 kits among 11,000 differently abled persons in Navsari, south Gujarat, as part of a central scheme.
"Earlier governments have had a callous attitude towards public welfare. I do not want that 'hota hai, chalta hai' attitude. Have you ever heard of a Prime Minister celebrating his birthday among the disabled? My government has recognised the significant role that divyangs have in the development of the nation and has organised 4,000 such camps across India."

By his mother's side

PM Narendra Modi started his day by seeking his mother Hiraba's blessings. At Hiraba's residence in the outskirts of Gandhinagar, Modi touched her feet and accepted the sweet she offered him. "Mother's love and blessings, panacea of life," the PM tweeted, before visiting Governor OP Kohli's house, where he caught up with CJI CJ Thakur over breakfast.

Open car for Limkheda

The PM may have travelled in Gandhinagar in a car well protected and accompanied by commandos. But in Limkheda, he preferred to travel in an open car on the way to a public event. He waved at people who were waiting on either side of the road. He also exchanged greeting with tribals in their local dialect. In Navsari, he greeted the people in a south Gujarati accent.

3 world records set

Three world records were set at two events held to celebrate the 66th birthday of the Modi at Navsari, Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said on Saturday. The world records are:

Most number of people (989) lighted earthen lamps in 30 seconds on Friday

1,000 differently abled persons made a formation on wheelchairs at a single venue, creating the largest wheelchair logo, on Saturday
1,700 hearing-impaired people were distributed 3,400 hearing aid machines at a single venue on Saturday.
