Senior Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi today said that Narendra Modi should "display similar candour" over snooping controversy in Gujarat as Congress leader Digvijaya Singh did about his relationship with a TV journalist. "There is enough material on record to suggest the Gujarat Chief Minister was taking so much of interest in a woman and tracking all her movements and tapping her telephonic conversations," Joshi told reporters here.

"At least, Digvijaya Singh showed the guts to make a public confession. Now it is the turn of the BJP's prime ministerial candidate to display similar candour and come clean on his personal life," Joshi, who is also the Congress nominee from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, said. "I am not aware if the party has taken any stand on this affair (Singh's relationship with the journalist). I would, nevertheless, like to emphasise that we must not invade anybody's privacy," the former Uttar Pradesh Congress chief said.

On Congress' scathing criticism of Modi for having concealed his marital status for long, Joshi said "that was not indefensible. Here we have a person who is aspiring to be the Prime Minister of the country and he did not even have the courage to accept that he had a wife".

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh (67) yesterday took to Twitter to announce his relationship with a woman journalist and plans about marrying her after the social media went viral about it.
