Clarifying Narendra Modi's comment on Bangladeshi migrants, the BJP on Saturday said the party would deport illegal Muslim migrants from Bangladesh in the event of coming to power.
"The majority in Bangladesh are Muslims and if they enter India illegally then they will be illegal migrants and they will be deported out of India after May 16. That is what Modiji had said," BJP national spokesperson Siddharthnath Singh told reporters here.
"There is a United Nations refugee policy wherein the minority community which is oppressed or discriminated because of their religion gets a refugee status. In Bangladesh, the minorities are Hindus so they will get refugee status in India," he said.
Modi had threatened to deport Bangladeshi immigrants if NDA came to power, saying they were being welcomed in West Bengal with a red carpet for vote bank politics.
