A day after serial blasts tore through Patna minutes before of BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi was to address a rally, the Congress blamed the Gujarat chief minister, saying his incendiary remarks in all his rallies led to the violence.

“The general election is still five months away, but the way Modi has been going around the country and polarising the masses has created a negative environment that has disturbed the country’s peaceful atmosphere,” said Congress spokesperson PC Chacko while addressing mediapersons on Monday.

On Sunday, six people died and more than 90 others were injured in eight blasts in and around the Modi’s rally venue. While the police have arrested two people, 13 more have been detained for questioning. Officials say the the Indian Mujahideen may have been behind the blasts.

Chacko said that having lost senior leaders in political violence, the Congress has been among one of its worst victims. “We condemn all such violence,” said Chacko. He also praised the home ministry for its quick response in sending a team from Delhi to Patna to investigate the blasts within hours.
