Janata Dal United (JD-U) party leader Shivanand Tewari said on Tuesday Modi’s reference to Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s sister in context of Article 370 was dirty and disgusting.
“If he wanted to talk about Article 370, he could have done it easily without referring to Omar Abdullah’s sister. It is an extremely bad gesture. A person who is an aspiring prime minister should never talk like this. More than appealing to the audience, Modi appeases himself by his speeches,” Tewari said.
He added that Modi does not care about the implications of what he says, or how much truth his statement holds. The way he has spoken about Article 370, and the way he referred to Omar Abdullah’s sister, is dirty and disgusting.
“The kind of language and ideas Modi has been propagating is wrong. The way he addresses and talks is not acceptable. He has no manners, and it seems it seems he is a wrestler from the ring. His tone is always harsh and aggressive,” said Tewari.
Recently, while addressing a rally in Jammu, Modi had stated that if Omar married outside Kashmir, his rights of being a citizen would remain whereas his sister Sara would lose her rights for the same.
“Is this not discrimination against the women in the state” Modi had asked.
To which Omar had replied by a tweet which said,” He (Modi) very conveniently used me & my sister as examples to illustrate a point that has NO bearing in truth. Either he lies or is ill informed.
Modi had said in his 'Lalkar' rally in Jammu on Sunday that there should be a thorough debate on the issue of Article 370, which gives special and autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He also made a reference to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, saying: "Nehru had said that in the future, the importance of Article 370 will fade out.
Criticizing the Congress, he said: "The Congress has sown the seeds of a 'separate state but the BJP Government will transform Jammu and Kashmir into one of the super states of the country.”
