Terming senior BJP leader Narendra Modi as the most eligible person for the post of the Prime Minister, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today asked the Congress to declare its candidate for the top job ahead of upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

In the event of formation of an NDA government at the Centre under Modi's leadership after the Lok Sabha polls, "a new era of unprecedented development and prosperity will usher in Punjab", he said.

Modi is the most eligible person for the coveted post of the Prime Minister, 86-year-old Badal told a gathering as part of his Sangat Darshan programme in Dharamkot assembly segment in Moga district.

Anti-people and irrational policies of the UPA regime have retarded the growth of Punjab and rest of the country, he alleged.

Later interacting with media persons, Badal said the Congress must declare its prime ministerial candidate for next Lok Sabha polls to enable voters to have a clear choice on who should lead the nation.

"The Congress must announce its General for Lok Sabha polls," Badal said.

The SAD-BJP alliance would contest the LS polls in Punjab on planks of development, peace and communal harmony, the five-time Chief Minister said.
