Narendra Modi meets PMO officials, emphasizes on leveraging technology for better governance

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had a brief meeting with Manmohan Singh on Tuesday met officials from PMO department on Wednesday. The purpose of the meeting was to understand the structural hierarchy and functioning of the department. In this preliminary meeting, PMO officials made a detailed presentation on the structure and functions of the PMO.

According to reports, during the course of the meeting, Narendra Modi stressed upon the need to resolve people’s grievances on fast track basis.

Modi also emphasised on the importance of leveraging modern technology and developing systems and processes for effective monitoring and resolution of issues which are particularly brought to his office. Modi is known to be a technocrat with initiatives such as 'Chai pe Charcha' and webinars that were undertaken before elections team Modi. 

Further, he also stated that over the past several decades, PMO has evolved as an important institution and its best practices should be carried forward.

Embarking on a policy of direct addressal of issues, Modi said that he would like his office to consider issues, especially those raised by the States on priority and with sensitivity. He added that this is important because India’s progress lies in the progress of States and this would strengthen the federal structure. 

He also underscored the importance of addressing concerns raised by people’s representatives personally or through Parliamentary procedures.He said, "team work is important to bring in good governance and PMO officials should freely interact with me with ideas."
