Indians and Pakistanis may be held in toxic relationship, stuck in a whipped up frenzy and baying for blood, but in far-off shores and more particularly in times of tragedies, they act like brothers-in-arms. A Pakistani ship, not only rescued 11 Indian held in war-torn Yemen, but Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arranges his personal special plane to take them to Delhi. Pakistani Navy ship Asiat had offloaded them in Karachi, along with Pakistani passengers.

Prime Minister Modi promptly appreciated Pakistan's humanitarian gesture. Thanking his Pakistani counterpart Sharif, Modi tweetted: "I welcome our 11 citizens who've returned from Yemen with assistance from Pakistan.

Thank you PM Nawaz Sharif for your humanitarian gesture." In another post he wrote: "Service to humanity knows no borders. Glad we helped many countries in evacuation from Yemen," and added, "The help India extended included help to our neighbours Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka."

Earlier, foreign secretary S Jaishankar also appreciated Pakistan's gesture. "It was a very positive, good, generous gesture," Jaishankar told reporters. He said Indian Navy also helped 400 nationalist of 32 countries including some from Pakistan. The INS Mumbai had rescued at least three Pakistanis from Aden on Saturday night and brought them to Djibouti.

Pakistan high commissioner in India Abdul Basit received Indians at Delhi's international airport, as Pakistani plane flying from Karachi, touched ground. Pakistan's navy had pulled out 11 Indians from Al Mukalla, a town grabbed by the Yemen arm of al Qaida.

Minitry of external affairs spokesperson said India was track to meet the midweek deadline it had set for evacuating all its nationals keen to leave Yemen. "We will end our air evacuation efforts from Sanaa on Thursday," said the officer. India on Wednesday pulled out nearly 600 people, mostly Indians, from Sanaa on three Air India flights.
