Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Amit Shah has been accorded a 'Z-plus' category security by the Home Ministry following high threat perception, official sources said today.
Under the Z Plus category, Shah would get between 40 to 70 guards, based on threat perception. The central list now has 250 people receiving security.
Sources say that the list of people under VIP security keeps increasing as no politician wants to risk losing affiliates by denying or downgrading his/her security.
Shah, a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be guarded by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos round the clock and armed guards will be posted at his residence, they said. He will enjoy the high level of security across the country wherever he travels.
The BJP leader, who was instrumental in the party's landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh in Lok Sabha elections, has so far been under the security of Gujarat Police.
Shah, a former Minister of State for Home of Gujarat, was arrested in 2010 in connection with the alleged fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kauser Bi and Sheikh's associate Tulsiram Prajapati.
