The Calcutta High Court observed on Tuesday that the raw footage and devices of the Narada tapes shall be kept under a safe custody in a locker at a nationalised bank.

While observing this decision, the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, Manjula Chellur observed, “The Narada tapes have created a dangerous impact on the society. This matter must be investigated. Even if the footage is old, shouldn’t the accused be penalised?”

Earlier last week, the court had formed a three-member committee to collect the raw footage and devices from Mathew Samuel, the chief of Narada News.

The committee comprised of an IGP rank officer of the West Bengal Police appointed by the state DGP. It also comprised a DIG rank officer from the zonal wing of CBI, Kolkata and an officer of the Calcutta High Court.

The decision came in the wake of Samuel not submitting the raw footage to the court. At a recent hearing at the Calcutta High Court, the counsel appearing for Samuel had said that he was willing to submit the raw footage and devices to an investigating agency but not the court as he fears for his life.

Three PILs have been filed with the Calcutta High Court to unearth the truth about the sting operation where TMC leaders and one IPS officer were seen openly accepting bribe.
