Irked by Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s statement that Ram temple was not in Centre’s agenda, a high-level delegation of Ayodhya seers and saints met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday to reiterate their demand for removing impediments coming in way of beginning construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.

The delegation, comprising senior member of the Ram Janambhomi Nyas Mahant Kamanayan Das, Mahant Awadhesh Das, Mahant Rajkumat Das, Mahanat Dr Bharat Das and others, expressed their displeasure over Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s reported statement and warned the BJP governments both the Centre and state to launch another agitation if construction did not begin by March 2019.

During the meetings, saints also raised Ayodhya development issues including cleaning of holy river Saryu and construction of Parikrama roads. They also demanded to correct government records which wrongly mentioned river Saryu as Ghaghra.

After the meeting, the Ayodhya saints appeared satisfied. “The Chief Minister is also worried about the delay in beginning the construction of Ram temple due to the pendency of the case in the Supreme Court. He assured us to take their concern at the highest level in party and government forum,” said Mahant Kamalnayan Das, who is likely to succeed Mahant Nritya Gopal Das as Chairman of Ram Janambhhomi Nyas, the trust which has been spearheading the movement for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The Ayodhya saint also claimed that the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also agreed to participate in Dharam Sansad to be held on June 25 in Allahabad. Speculations are rife that seers and saints are likely to announce a date to begin the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya during Dharam Sansad.

Sources in BJP claimed that the Prime Minister and party National President Amit Shah had asked the Chief Minister to meet agitated Ayodhya saints and placate them after Muktar Abbas Naqvi’s statement. Ayodhya seers are also annoyed with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on keeping mum about the issue.

On Tuesday, Mahant Suresh Das of Digambar Akhara had warned that BJP will lose Lok Sabha polls if it did not allow to begin construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. “We have governments both in the state and at the Centre but even then we are not allowed to begin construction,” said Mahant Suresh Das, who succeeded late Mahant Ramchandra Paramhans Das, the architect of Ram Janambhoomi movement

The Bajrang Dal founder Vinay Katiyar was also critical of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s statement. “Construction Ram temple is bigger an issue along with development for Lok Sabha polls. Any delay will cost the party,” he had warned.
