Winding up his whirlwind five-day US visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi "thanked" America for what he said was a highly "successful and satisfactory trip" to the country. "Thank You America," Modi said as he concluded his last official engagement at an event organised by the US Indian Business Council (USIBC) on Tuesday. After that he directly left for the Andrews Air Force Base, from where his Air India One took off for New Delhi.

Reaffirming close ties with India, US President Barack Obama on Tuesday emphasized that it was critical for both nations to deepen and broaden the framework of existing partnership. President Obama and Prime Minister Modi also discussed international issues like the challenges in the Middle East, including the threat posed by the Islamic State and the peaceful transition of power in Afghanistan.

The two leaders also discussed issues of trade, issues of making sure that maritime rules were observed, in addition to steps that both India and the United States can continue to take together on a host of issues from space exploration, scientific endeavour to dealing with humanitarian crisis like Ebola in West Africa.

The US President also stated that he was impressed with Prime Minister Modi’s interest in not only addressing the needs of the poor in India and revitalizing the economy there but his determination to make sure that India is serving as a major power that can help bring about peace and security for the entire world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama also renewed the defence agreement between India and the US for a further ten-year period.

Modi, who met US President Barack Obama at the White House extended an invitation to him to visit India with his family.

Standard & Poor's on Friday improved India's outlook to stable from negative saying the new political formation at the Centre has the capacity to push reforms and put the country back on high growth trajectory. Pakistan on Thursday said there was "no planned meeting" between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York, while asserting that the onus for resumption of dialogue process was on India which suspended the talks. "We have not sought a meeting and we have not received any request," Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said at the weekly briefing here. Replying to a question, she said the two Foreign Offices are in contact through their respective High Commissions about possible meetings of the foreign secretaries which was cancelled last month.
