All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) on Saturday demanded that the policemen allegedly involved in the gang-rape and murder of two dalit sisters in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh be named as accused and not as "abetters" in the FIR.

The AIDWA members who met the family members of the two victims also demanded that proper toilet facilities be provided in villages to ensure safety of women. "The names of two policemen should be mentioned as the accused not as abetters and toilet facilities should be provided in the villages, more so, in the cases of landless communities, for the safety of women," AIDWA general secretary Jagmati Sangwan said.

Sangwan said that according to the victims' family members, the policemen allegedly involved in the incident were in the company of the accused the whole night when the incident occurred.

AIDWA also demanded financial aid and security for the victims' families. It said that the UP government should make a proper rehabilitation policy for all rape victims instead of going for pick and choose and all rape cases occurring in the state should be fast tracked.

Expressing shock at the barbaric incident, AIDWA said it will fight for justice for the two girls and will organise protest marches against increasing incidents of violence against women in UP and in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, several other organisations including Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Janwadi Lekhak Sangh (JLS), Janwadi Mahila Samiti (JMS), Jan Natya Manch (JNM), and Students' Federation of India (SFI) on Saturday organised a protest demonstration at Uttar Pradesh Bhawan here against the horrific incident.

Addressing the dharna, Sudha Sundarraman, All India Vice President of AIDWA, attacked the UP government and Samajwadi Party (SP) leadership for their anti-women attitude.
