An convict externed from Nagpur city allegedly stripped an 18-year-old woman naked and attempted to kill her, in a gruesome incident which came to light on Monday.

Prakash Bagde, whose name is registered with the Nagpur police as an externed convict, has a host of crimes to his account including rape, murder, bootlegging and assault, according to a report in ABP Mazha.

However, on Thursday night, Bagde invited the victim to his house and attempted to make her spill the beans about the whereabouts of his girlfriend. When she refused to oblige, he stripped her naked and attempted to kill her by strangling. The victim managed to free herself from his clutches and find refuge at her friend's place. Interestingly, her friend was Bagde's girlfriend whose whereabouts he wanted to know.

The two friends rushed to the police station where the victim was treated for her wounds. However, on finding out that the assaulter was in fact an externed criminal, the police sent the women home at 3 am. Fearing Bagde, the two women then hid in a temple the entire night.

The women informed the local Yuva Sena unit next day, which immediately sprung into action. A group of them reached the police station, but the police refused to file an FIR claiming that Bagde being an externed criminal could not have possibly committed the crime.

The Yuva Sena volunteers then threatened an agitation, following which the police finally registered a molestation case against Prakash Bagde, late at night on Friday.

As of Saturday, March 28, police were still searching for the accused. Incredibly, the alleged crime took place a mere 200 metres away from the police station in question. No police officials however were willing to come on record with the story.

Interestingly, Nagpur, the hometown of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has seen a spate of crimes against women in the recent past.
