Seven fishermen were injured on Tuesday when a cargo vessel coming from Karaikal port hit their boat, 15 nautical miles off Nagapattinam coast, a fisheries official said.
Nagapattinam Fisheries Joint Director Subburaj said the fishermen from Nagapattinam were fishing around 4.30 AM when the vessel which was heading to Singapore from Karaikal port, hit the mechanised boat, injuring them.
The cargo ship did not stop and the injured were rescued by another group of fishermen and taken to Nagapattinam government hospital, where they received treatment, the official said. No case has been registered, Subburaj said.
The fishermen's boat was damaged in the incident, Nagapattinam Fishermen Association President Manoharan said.
