NAAC chief is new UGC head, order issued

Former Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University Dhirendra Pal  Singh, who is currently the chairman of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), has been appointed the new Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC).

An official order regarding the same was released by DoPT on Friday. DNA was the first to report on the likelihood of the same about a month ago. “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal for appointment of Prof. Dhirendra Pal Singh, Director, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru to the post of Chairman in University Grants Commission (UGC) on direct recruitment basis, for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge of the post,” the order reads.
