Launching a sharp attack on her former ally and Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today described him as "weak and failed", accusing him of pulling the state's development backwards.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister questioned the AINRC government's track record on various issues, including the arrest of Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy, and asked the electorate to defeat the fledgling party besides her archrival DMK and Congress.
Canvassing votes for the lone seat where she has fielded M V Omalingam for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls, the AIADMK General Secretary asked what action Rangasamy had taken on these issues and alleged it had not done anything good for people of the UT. "Promises and assurances remained on paper while welfare schemes had not been implemented. The state's infrasturcture had not received any fillip during AINRC's three-year government", Jayalalithaa charged. "Law and order is in shambles. Has AINRC ever vocied its concern for the release of fishermen from Karaiakal arrested by Sri Lankan Navy? No. Whenever our Tamil Nadu fishermen are apprehended I take efforts for their release and when they are freed, Karaikal fishermen also walk free due to my efforts," she said.
She asked if AINRC had ever spoken in support of Sri Lankan Tamils issue or at least passed a resolution in the assembly, in an apparent reference to her government passing a slew of resolutions in this matter. The present government had not highlighted the feelings of the local people with the Centre even as it had not opposed the Planning Commission reducing the allocation for the UT's Plan Expenditures for the current year to Rs 2000 crore from Rs 3000 crore in 2012-13, which amounted to a dip in the growth of the state, she said.
The Puducherry government was also 'silent' on various "anti-people" measures of Congress-led UPA towards the UT including the famous JIPMER Hospital introducing income ceiling for free treatment while it was universal even about five years ago.
AINR Congress and its government also 'did not bother' about the Centre's allowing FDI in retail trade which was also supported by DMK, Jayalalithaa said adding the two should be defeated for this. If AIADMK is part of the next government, it would do away with FDI, she assured. "Overall you have got a weak and failed Chief Minister. Because of this Puducherry's growth is going backwards," she said while making a strong pitch for her candidate's win.
Recalling AINRC's alliance with AIADMK in 2011, she said the former however later went on to form government with independent support, 'ignoring' her party. This was not just a "betrayal" to AIADMK but to the people of the UT, she said adding had AINRC formed government with her party's support, people would have benefitted with various schemes implemented in Tamil Nadu like free mixer-grinder among others.
She also took a dig at Congress' sitting MP of Puducherry and Union Minister V Narayansamy, accusing him of doing nothing in terms of industrial growth and employment.
He neither took any initiatives for full statehood or anything in terms of rail connectivity. "Narayanasamy did not do anything for Puducherry. Despite being in power at the Centre and the state, Congress could not ensure full statehood. Congress leaders' focus is on their growth, not yours," she charged.
Accusing AINRC, Congres and DMK of not doing anything at all for Puducherry including in power sector, she told the voters that they be 'uprooted' completely in the coming elections.
