Panic gripped the Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar after a 'mysterious' blast occurred outside the BJP office on Saturday.

BJP sources said there was no leader present in the office when the explosion occurred. There was no loss of life or property in the explosion.

Altaf Thakur, BJP's media in-charge for Kashmir, told DNA that somebody threw something at their office around 8.30 pm.

“Except security personnel and an office boy, no one was present in the office when the explosion occurred”, he said.

Police said a loud bang was heard and they are verifying the nature of the blast.

“Some loud sound was heard which is being verified. There is no apparent damage to the office or neighboring buildings”, said a police spokesman.

Soon after the explosion, senior police and civil administration officers rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. “The matter is being investigated into”, the police spokesman said

The police has also asked people to refrain from spreading rumours on the social media about the explosion.

“Some rumors are being circulated on social media regarding alleged attack and ransacking of an office of a political party at Raj Bagh. This is to clarify that no such incident has taken place,” the police official said.
