Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that his son would not be a member or director of any company as long as he is in power. Siddaramaiah said it was he who advised his son Dr. Yathindra to quit Matrix Imaging Solutions Ltd even though he did not commit any mistake.

Speaking with media persons after releasing a book on the achievements of his administration during the last three years, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that his son is 36 years old and leading life independently and has been paying Income Tax. "I told me him not to become a member or director of any company as long as I am the Chief Minister of this state,'' Siddaramaiah said.

Dr. Yathindra S had to quit after Opposition parties launched a political campaign against Siddaramaiah government for allowing Matrix Imaging Solutions Ltd, in which Siddaramaiah's son was a director, to set up a clinical laboratory and radio diagnosis and imaging services at the state government-run Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. It is alleged that Matrix Imaging Solutions Ltd won the contract by placing the lowest bid. The clinical laboratory started functioning recently.

No jail, no bail

Coming down heavily on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for making baseless allegations, Siddaramaiah said that his government had allocated more funds during the last three years than the funds allocated in the five years of BJP administration. Claiming his government was corruption-free, Siddaramaiah said that no minister in his Cabinet had indulged in corruption in the last three years. "We have neither gone to jail nor applied for a bail. Some of the former BJP ministers are still on bail for their involvement in corruption. Like former chief minister Yeddyurappa, no minister in my Cabinet was behind the bars,'' Siddaramaiah said.

More funds for Bengaluru

The chief minister said that his government has been doing a lot for the development of Bengaluru. He said that efforts have been made to release the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) properties that were mortgaged by BJP leaders when they were in power at the BBMP. "We have spent more than Rs 1,000 crore for the development of roads in Bengaluru. In the recent State Budget, we have allocated sufficient funds for the development of infrastructure in Bengaluru,'' he said.
