The wealth amassed by Brajesh Thakur, the key accused in the Muzaffarpur horror home case, is now under scanner and the process to confiscate his property will also be initiated soon, a police source said and added that Thakur’s bank accounts had already been freezed on the directives of senior officials.

The source said, “Thakur has purchased property in Delhi, Patna, Muzaffarpur and some other districts of Bihar, all these through illegal activities. His NGOs were registered in the names of family members or fake identities, but received grants worth crore every year. His newspaper circulation figures were inflated to get advertisements to the tune of Rs 20 - 30 lakh annually. And apart from these, we are also looking into leads that he ran a sex racket of supplying girls to high profile people.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case on July 30, has also sought the health reports of Thakur from doctors and is likely to seek his remand if he is medically fit for it.

Thakur, 50, who is the main accused in the rape and torture of at least 34 girls residing at a Balika Grih run by his NGO Sewa Sankalp and Vikas Samiti, is presently in Muzaffarpur jail hospital due to complaints of diabetes, hypertension and slip disc.

Thakur will be questioned on the basis of his Call Detail Record (CDR) of one mobile phone number, which have allegedly revealed his connection with some high profile people including Chandeshwar Verma, the husband of former Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma.

While the Minister resigned on Wednesday following reports of regular contact between her husband and Brajesh, and the latter confirming that he talked to Chandeshwar about general and political issues, Chandeshwar himself is no where in the scene. Even earlier, when the wife of an arrested accused had charged him of frequenting the shelter home, it was Manju who came to clarify before the media, not Chandeshwar.
