Reacting to the ongoing protests in Aligarh over the portrait of Jinnah, Ramdev added that the matter should not concern the Muslim community as they anyway do not believe in idol worship.
‘Muslims don’t believe in worshipping photos. So, they should not worry about this issue. Jinnah cannot be an ideal for India's integrity and unity, maybe he is for Pakistan,’ Ramdev said.
In Aligarh, some groups protested against the portrait of Pakistan's founder at the office of AMU student union's office.
The matter hit the headlines after Bharatiya Janata Party's Aligarh MP Satish Gautam questioned the portrait's presence in the AMU student union office.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also ordered a probe into the violence in Aligarh Muslim University but made it clear that his government will not allow any celebration in the name of Mohammed Ali Jinnah who was responsible for the partition of India.
“How can we glorify a person who was responsible for the partition of the country? There is no question of anyone being allowed to glorify Mohammed Ali Jinnah or celebrate any event related to him in any part of the country,” said Yogi Adityanath.
“He (read Jinnah) was trying to become the Prime Minister of Independent India and when he failed in his endeavour then he sought division of the country and created Pakistan to fulfil his dream,” charged Yogi Adityanth.
Meanwhile, in view of the indefinite dharna and boycott of academic activities by students in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the university announced that exams would be postponed.
An official statement from the institute’s public relations office, stated that exams which were to be held from May 7 has been postponed to May 12.
Earlier, a video of protesting students shouting slogans of "Azadi", apparently against right-wing groups, went viral on social media.
AMU PRO Professor Shafey Kidwai said, "Students were on an indefinite protest at the Bab-e-Syed gate of the university and were raising the slogan - Bhagwa Rang aur Aatank se Azadi. These are not anti-India slogans, and do not relate to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India."
He added, "The students are protesting, so that the police and administration act against the so-called Hindu organisations, which had given provocative speeches and raised highly objectionable slogans. A case was also registered in this context."
Kidwai said the students were holding protests in a democratic manner and had three demands.
