Prominent Muslim organisations, religious leaders and scholars have issued a joint advisory calling upon the community to abide by ‘dos and don’ts’, to ensure that Eid ul Adha, popularly known as Bakri Eid passes off peacefully, without any unpleasantness. The festival of sacrifice will be celebrated on August 22, 2018, across the country.

The eight-point advisory, ahead of a festival where Muslims offer cattle  as a symbolic sacrifice in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), has asked Muslims to avoid streets and public places for carrying out the sacrifice and hold slaughters jointly at a common place and ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene.

It also requested community members to not break the law under any circumstance and keep in touch with the local administration and draw their attention towards maintaining law and order in the area.

The advisory was issued by Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Husni Nadwi, president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, president of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, and other eminent leaders. The advisory stated that owing to the present situation, there could be a difficulty in procuring the qurbani meat (or the sacrificial animal). But people should remember their responsibility and carry out the duty responsibly. It stated that people should not offer the sacrifice in open places and on the roads, footpaths and roadways. “Kindly ensure that you are burying the blood and entrails of the animal in the earth after the qurbani. Kindly ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene,” the advisory read.

The advisory also asked people to try and offer the sacrifice collectively in neighbourhoods and asked people to exercise maximum self-control and self-restraint.
