Murder convict on furlough falls from 5th floor of Mantralaya in Mumbai, dies

 A 45-year-old man fell to his death from the fifth floor of the Mantralaya building in south Mumbai on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 6:10 PM. The man has been identified as Harshal Raote, a resident of Chembur

"As soon as we learned about the incident we rushed to the spot and found Raote in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival," said Manoj Sharma, Deputy Police Commissioner Zone-1. 

Sharma said that they have contacted his family members and the body will be handed over to them after the post-mortem.

It is not yet confirmed whether Raote committed suicide or was it an accidental fall.

"Harshal Raote was a prisoner life convict in Paithan open prison. He was on furlough from 10th of January and Thursday was last day of his leave," said Addition DG (Prisons) BK Upadhyay.

Speaking to media, Minister Vinod Tawde said, "When we called his house, his father told us he was serving jail term in a murder case and was out on parole. If it was suicide or accident will be ascertained in the investigation."
