Mumbai: Youth tries to enter court in car, assaults cop; held

The Shanti Nagar police have arrested a 28-year-old after he allegedly tried to enter a court in his SUV. The accused allegedly also assaulted an on-duty policeman.

According to the police, Aadesh Kapil Patil, a resident of Kharbao in Bhiwandi, was driving his SUV Duster (MH 04 GM 6199) when he tried to enter the Bhiwandi court. When the policeman, Bhagwan Kotwal, tried to stop him, Patil allegedly held his collar and assaulted him. Kotwal filed a formal complaint against the youth.

"We have arrested the youth for assaulting our officer. He wanted to enter the court premises; when our officer tried to stop him, Patil got unruly," said Sukhada Narkar, PRO, Thane police department. "We have registered a case under sections 353 (assaulting or obstructing a public servant from conducting the duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from conducting duty), 504 (intentional insult) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code."
