A 25-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her beauty parlour at Ghatkopar's Garden Gully on Thursday. The body was discovered by the woman's mother. Ghatkopar police are probing the reason that drove the woman to take the extreme step. The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Jagannath.

According to the police, Priyanka's mother had visited the parlour to meet her daughter around 7 PM on Thursday, but despite repeated knocks, when Priyanka did not open the door, her mother called a key maker and got a duplicate key made. Upon opening the door she found Priyanka hanging from the ceiling.

Priyanka's mother then called up the police control room and informed them about the incident. The control room then alerted Ghatkopar police about the same after which the police visited the spot. Priyanka's body was sent to Rajawadi hospital for post-mortem. No suicide note was found from the spot, the police said.

"Preliminary probe revealed that a day before the incident, Priyanka had told her co-workers to take an off on Thursday. After entering the beauty parlour, she locked the door from inside and increased the volume of her music system before hanging herself," said police sub-inspector Suresh Avhad of Ghatkopar police station.

He added: "Priyanka's parents are in deep trauma as they are unable to understand why she took such a drastic step. However, we did not find anything suspicious in the matter and have registered an accidental death case in this regard."
