Mumbai: Trucker mows down Sr citizen at Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road, held

The driver has been booked under Section 279 (Rash driving or riding on the public way) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A 65-year-old man died in a fatal accident which was reported at Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road on Friday night. The deceased identified as Ishwar Kamble — a resident of Gautham Nagar, Govandi — was hit by a trailer truck while he was crossing the road with his son Ajay Kamble (30). According to the police, a vehicle numbered MH-46-AF-0358 was driven by the accused Mashoor Alam Muhammad Chaudhary (30), a Sewri resident. The vehicle was coming from Mankhurd via Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR). Chaudhary apparently lost control over his vehicle rammed Ishwar while he was crossing road along with Ajay.

"The truck was coming in full speed from the Mankhurd and was travelling towards Ghatkopar when the driver lost the control of the truck and dashed Ishwar while he was crossing the road," said senior police inspector of Deonar police station Dattatray Shinde.

He added: "The father and son duo had come for Ishwar's treatment. Such was the impact that he died before being admitted to Rajawadi Hospital."

Police sub-inspector SP Ingole of Deonar police station said "Ajay, who is the complainant in the case, first called the police control room and informed them about the accident. The control room then alerted Deonar police about the same after which the police visited the spot. With the help of locals, we rushed Ishwar to Rajawadi hospital but there he was declared dead before admission. We have arrested the errant driver and also seized his vehicle. He has been booked under Section 279 (Rash driving or riding on the public way) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)."
