Reacting to the issue raised by Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil through a point of order before the Question Hour, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Lathi-charge was done after agitators started pelting stones, no one was injured.

Fadnavis informed the Legislative Assembly that the railway administration has initiated talks with students who protested in Mumbai today demanding permanent jobs.

"Government should have shown some sensitivity by talking to the railway ministry and conveying their demands to the Centre. They were demanding jobs in railways, but railways have changed rules regarding recruitment of apprentices," Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said.

The protestors who have passed the Railway act apprentice exam are demanding a removal of 20% upper limit in the hiring of candidates for Railway jobs.

They claim that until now everyone used to be included in Group D but now they have fixed at 20% quota which was mainly for the new lot.

"Recruitment in Railways is underway at a large scale. On directives of Supreme Court, Indian Railways has made a recruitment policy that is unbiased and transparent," Goyal said.
