Islamic preacher Zakir Naik and his Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) is in further trouble. The Mumbai police have indicted both in its report, which was submitted to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday.

On Tuesday, Fadnavis said that state government would take action against Naik and IRF after studying the report and sharing it with Union home ministry. He said bringing Naik back from abroad would not be difficult as India has extradition treaties with many countries. Naik is in Saudi Arabia now.

The Mumbai police report confirms how Naik and his organisation were involved in anti-national and unlawful activities. Addressing media persons at his official bungalow, Varsha, Fadnavis said that the report has brought to the fore the connection between Naik and IRF with terrorist outfits, including Jamaat-ud-Da'wa, and his connections with Firoze Deshmukh, who was nabbed by the ATS in a train bomb blast. The report also says he had made contacts with many terrorist outfits through websites. He was also connected with many youngsters nabbed in Hyderabad and a Kalyan youth who had gone to join IS and the Indian Mujahideen.

Fadnavis said that since the details in the report deals with the internal security of the country, the report would be sent to the Union government. The report also touched upon the financing of IRF and from where the funds come.

The chief minister said that since India has extradition treaties with many countries and since the entire world has a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, getting help from other countries should not be a problem. When asked what kind of offences would be registered and whether there would be a time frame, Fadnavis said that it would not be right to talk about them now. "Our action would speak and as far as a time frame is concerned, I only can tell that it would be as early as this report," he said.
