Mumbai Plane Crash: UP govt says it sold the King Air C90 aircraft to pvt company in 2014

Five people including two pilots were killed and two others were injured after a chartered plane crashed in an open area in Mumbai's Ghatkopar on Thursday afternoon.

The plane that crashed in Mumbai this afternoon did not belong to the Uttar Pradesh government as it was sold to a private company in 2014, the state government said on Thursday.

Five people including two pilots were killed and two others were injured after a chartered plane crashed in an open area in Mumbai's Ghatkopar on Thursday afternoon. The King Air C90 12-seater aircraft was on a test flight when it crashed in the crowded Mumbai suburb around 1:30 pm, soon after taking off from Juhu airport.

"This aircraft was not that of the Uttar Pradesh government. It was sold in 2014 to a private company UY Aviation," Principal Secretary, Information, Avinish Awasthi said.

"The aircraft was with the government till 2014. It was sold to UY Aviation of Bombay. It is currently neither owned nor operated by the UP Government," he added He was reacting to reports in a section of the media that the plane belonged to UP Government.

Pictures of the plane showed that it carried the logo of the UP government.

"There were two pilots and two AMEs on board. All on board aircraft along with one person on the ground are dead," said Directorate  General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

DGCA Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau to conduct probe

The DGCA said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau will conduct a detailed probe into the plane crash.

"The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau will conduct a detailed probe into the crash. A DGCA team is already on its way to the spot," Director General of Civil Aviation B S Bhullar told PTI.

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu also asked officials to rush to the spot to assist in the relief operations, an official in the ministry said.

He said the minister also asked the investigation authorities to ascertain the cause of the crash.
