According to official of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the pipeline developed huge leakage at a Metro construction site at Ram Ganesh Gadakari Square in Dadar West around 5 pm.
The height of the water fountain developed due to leakage in pipeline as it was touching terrace of three-storey building. There were losses reported.
Civic officials of two wards G South and G North responded quickly and closed the water valve to prevent major loss.
“The water supply affected for almost one hour in Dadar and Worli area after leakage in the pipeline,” said Ashok Khairnar, assistant commissioner of G North wad.
He added that the heavy leakage developed on 600 mm diameter pipeline which was brought under control in 15 to 20 minutes.
He further added that the supply of water was stopped to carry out the repair work. “We dewatered from the pipeline area and repaired the pipeline,” said Khairnar. He added that by 6.39 restored fully and was ready for water supply.
“Joint of a connector pipe between 1.45 m diameter and 0.45 m diameter waterline got opened due to internal pressures at Ram Ganesh Gadakari Square, Dadar, after the concrete bulkhead was removed during its sanctioned disconnection process. The situation was immediately brought under control by closing valves from both sides and water supply in the area immediately restored,” said spokesperson from MMRC.
