In the posh Mumbai locality of Colaba, a 27-year-old doctor ended up having an unpleasant experience over the weekend.

According to a Mid-Day report, a 32-year-old Indian Navy official assaulted the female doctor at a BEST junction where she waiting with a friend. The official, Sanjay Singh Chauhan, allegedly violently grabbed the woman's breast.

The woman, a native of Sindhudurg and a doctor at a south Mumbai hospital, was going out to for dinner with her friend to a restaurant in Colaba, but there was no table available for them. So they decided to make a booking and return later.

At around 11.15 PM, when they decided to return to the restaurant, they stopped by a BEST junction so that her friend could call up the restaurant and confirm. While her friend was on the call, Chauhan assaulted the doctor and started walking away.

But she would not let him go off the hook easily and created a ruckus, alerting her friend and passers-by, who caught Chauhan and handed him over to the Colaba police station. He was charged under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and will be produced in court on Sunday. The court further sent him to a judicial custody till April 7. But, his bail plea was later accepted at a surety of Rs 15,000.

However, speaking to the tabloid, Chauhan's advocate Sunil Pandey said, "The complainant and her friends were having a heated argument on the road. Seeing this, my client had just approached the woman to ask if there was any problem, since she was standing alone at night. The complainant, her friend and the public misunderstood it. He has been falsely implicated in the matter."
