The Bangur Nagar police on Monday, with the help of a taxi driver, arrested a man for murdering an aspiring model and stuffing her body inside a suitcase.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Muzammil Sayyed, was known to Mansi Dixit, a model who had come to Mumbai from Rajasthan.

The police said that Sayyed, who lived in Oshiwara, had telephoned Dixit for an unknown reason. They then met at his place, following which they got into an argument. Sayyed in a fit of rage smashed Dixit’s head with a hammer, killing her on the spot. To ensure she was dead, Sayyed then strangled her. He then stuffed the body into a suitcase and booked a cab online for Mumbai international airport.

While travelling by cab, Sayyed asked the driver to take the vehicle to the back road of Mindspace in Malad west, which is usually isolated and normally only used by senior citizens taking walks in the morning or evening. He then asked the driver to stop, following which he dumped the suitcase in a bush, left the taxi where it was, and took a rickshaw home.

Sensing something amiss, the taxi driver immediately alerted the Bangur Nagar police and gave all Sayyed’s details from the online booking. Based on CCTV footage, and the rickshaw he took, the police picked up Sayyed from his residence on Monday evening after which he confessed to his crime.

As per police reports, Dixit hails from Rajasthan and was an aspiring model. She was also involved in other business ventures such as finance, event management, designing and others as such and her office was situated next to Infinity mall in Andheri.

"She was not well-acquainted with the city and used to stay in her Andheri flat with her manager. To my knowledge, there was no business stress or depression which she faced and she never mentioned about any of her friend named Muzammil Sayyed." said an office mate of Dixit.

Sayyed was booked under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code. “Further investigation of the case is under progress and we are finding why the deceased went to the flat of the accused." said Deputy Commissioner of Police , Zone 11, Sangramsingh Nishandar.
