A minor boy was arrested by the Bangur Nagar police on Saturday for allegedly trying to extort Rs5 lakh from a small-time actress. The accused allegedly hacked into the Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Icloud account of the complainant and downloaded her personal photographs and videos. He had threatened the actress that he would upload her 'personal' pictures and videos if she failed to pay up the money.

According to the police, a few days back, the complainant received a WhatsApp message from an unknown person. He informed her that he is in possession of some personal photographs and videos of the complainant. "The accused demanded Rs5 lakh to be deposited in a particular bank account from the complainant if she did not want those photos and videos to be uploaded on Facebook and other social networking sites," said an officer, and added: "We formed a team to track down the accused and arrested him on Saturday from Dahishar. The accused is a minor and a resident of Nalasopara."

On questioning, the accused told the police that a few days back he sent out a fishing mail to the complainant on her Gmail account and got access to her password through it. "Using her password, he hacked into her Instagram and Facebook accounts and changed their passwords and downloaded some of her pictures and videos. The accused got the complainant's mobile number from her Gmail account and later sent her a WhatsApp message demanding Rs5 lakh," said the officer.

The accused, interrogation revealed, had tried hacking into Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp of some other models and actresses earlier too. The police have recovered the cell phone of the accused used to hack the complainant's accounts.

The Bangur Nagar police have booked the accused under section 385 (extortion) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with section 66 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
