The Mumbai MET department has issued an alert for "heavy to very heavy rain" for September 15, 16 and 17 in Mumbai. This could dampen Ganesh Visarjan celebrations across the city.

The rains are being attributed to the low pressure area currently over Telangana and adjoining areas which has increased moisture incursion over the coastal city of Maharashtra. "This will cause very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, along with parts of Central Maharashtra, the Konkan region, Marathwada and Goa as well," IMD Mumbai Director V K Rajeev told PTI.

In the wake of forecast, the BMC has issued a high-tide warning for city and asked people to stay cautious during Ganesh immersion. A high tide of 1.21 meters is expected at 11.22 pm, a BMC official said. Ganesh idol immersion processions in Mumbai typically continue overnight to next day morning.

Meanwhile, a woman has succumbed to dengue in the city this monsoon even as 122 cases of the vector disease have been reported here during this rainy season, officials said. Over 1,500 people have been admitted to various hospitals in the city for suspected dengue this month alone, according to figures of the Mumbai civic body. Mosquito-breeding proliferations are most common during the months of August and September due to many spots of stagnant rain water.
