The State Council of All India Kisan Sabha will launch a statewide indefinite demonstration to protest against the neglect towards the tribal population in Maharashtra. The protest also accounts for malnutrition deaths that have taken place in these tribal districts. The agitation will be launched in Palghar district with a Gherao around Minister for Tribal Development, Vishnu Savara's house.

The state unit president Kisan Gujar and All India General secretary Ashok Dhavle informed that lakhs of farmers would stage demonstrations outside Wada residence of Minister Savara in Palghar district today. Dhavle said that the statewide indefinite agitation would start with a Gherao around Savara's house on Monday.

In addition to demand of immediate action on malnutrition deaths, the demands by Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha include giving the tribal and forest lands to tribal people if they are cultivating the land, payment of work under Padkai scheme which was aimed at making tribal lands flat, priority to giving water from dams in tribal areas to tribal population. The Kisan Sabha is also pressing for providing food ration to the tribal people, employment opportunities and educational facilities.

Dhavle informed that many people in these tribal areas are still waiting for Aadhar cards and ration cards. He stated that most of the tribal schemes and people who are dependent on forests for their livelihood suffer due to massive corruption and there is a need to investigate all such corruption cases. Dhavle and Gujar demanded that by implementing Panchayat Raj and decentralised model there is a need to accord highest authority to Gram Sabha or village Panchayat meeting so that the beneficiaries of every Government scheme can be selected by the Gram Sabha or villagers themselves. He said that since the beneficiaries are nothing but bogus names there is corruption in almost every scheme.

They also pointed out that the land which is in possession of tribal farmers for generations are being taken away by the Government. Dhavle said that the demonstrators would insist the Minister to bring capable officers from the department at the demonstration and arrive at decisions on the spot or else face the indefinite Gherao.
