The Mumbai-Goa route has been chosen for the railways' premium Tejas brand of trains. On Thursday, Central Railway announced that the CST-Karmali Tejas will ply on five days, with no service on Monday and Thursday. The train will leave CST at 12:20 am and reach Karmali at 11 am the same day. On the return leg, the Tejas train will leave Karmali at 12:20 pm and reach CST at 10:45 pm. It will halt at Thane, Panvel, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kudal and Thivim in both directions, said officials. The start of train's operations would be announced later, said CR officials.

The Tejas train is being built at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. As reported by dna, the first coach of the Tejas is ready and will be put on trial in a few days time.  According to RCF officials, the coach will be sent to the Railway Board which will decide where the 130 kmph coach will be tested. As per the current schedule, officials said, the train is likely to be commissioned by the railways in February next year. The railways plans to make three such rakes, said officials.

One of the biggest challenges, officials said, would be the fitting of television screens at the back of the seats, something that has not been done in Indian trains previously. The performance of these enhanced features at top speeds would be interesting. However, officials pointed out that the first coach built do not have these TV screens fitted into the seats as yet. The blue and yellow seats itself are of a new ergonomic design and provide higher levels of comfort than the seats fitted in the higher class coaches of trains at the moment.
