Two people were on Monday arrested by Mumbai police in connection with the murder of the 72-year-old RTI activist, who was shot dead at point-blank range at his residence in suburban Santacruz on Sunday.

Police have arrested former corporator Razzaq Khan (78) and his son Amjad Khan (53).

The activist, Bhupendra Vira, who had been fighting against land mafia, unauthorised structures and encroachments in and around Kalina, was attacked on Sunday night.

Social activist and former AAP leader Anjali Damania, who had worked with Vira, has alleged that he was targeted for taking on the land mafia.

"We are also inquiring whether Vira had approached the police with any complaint- that he faced threat to his life," senior police officer said

Vira is survived by a daughter and two sons. His body was sent to JJ Hospital for post-mortem.
