Mumbai: Drunk Merchant Navy trainee arrested for molesting woman on New Year's Eve

A Mumbai youth was arrested on New Year’s Eve in Colaba after he tried escaping after molesting a girl.

The accused, identified as Ehtesham Salim Ahmad, a Merchant Navy trainee, was caught by an alert policeman while he was trying to escape after kissing the woman outside Leopold Cafe.

According to the police, the victim was waiting on the footpath outside the café. As it was New Year’s Eve, there was heavy police bandobast in the area. One alert cop saw Ahmad kissing the woman and trying to escape. After a quick chase, Ahmad was caught and brought to Colaba police station.

The woman, too, approached the cops and filed a complaint following which Ahmad was arrested.

"We found that the accused was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the offense. The woman is a student and her father is in the navy," the official adde.

A case has been registered under section 354(for molestation) of Indian Penal Code and Ahmad was produced in the court on Monday, from where he was released on bail by the court.
