Mumbai: Courtrooms in High Court to have WiFi facility

During a recent hearing on court infrastructure, it has been pointed out to the court about several things like tubelights, washrooms, etc not being functional.

Soon, advocates and litigants in the Bombay High Court, will be able to refer judgments and orders passed by any courts in India, by sitting inside the court rooms, WiFi facility on the line of the Supreme Court of India will be provided in all court rooms of the high court. The Bombay Bar Association and Advocates Association of Western India (AAWI) have given their consent for allowing the setting up of WiFi inside court rooms. The high court administration is accordingly working out the logistical nuances of the project.

As per a communication sent earlier by AAWI to justice Abhay Oka, who is the Chairman of the E-committee, states that in order to use information available on the National Judicial Grid and the to refer case laws instantaneously, WiFi facility will have to be provided in all court rooms. Following this letter another letter has been sent to Central Project Coordinator (E-courts project), by AAWI agreeing to a proposal of installing the facility which shall be outsourced.

During a recent hearing on court infrastructure and shifting of the high court premises from Fort to Bandra East, it has been pointed out to the court about several things like tubelights, washrooms, etc not being functional. The need for WiFi was also mentioned. Justice Oka had asked the concerned advocates to submit a list of things which needed attention to the administration. Senior Counsel Rajiv Chavan had then urged the court to expedite the installation of WiFi in court rooms to help lawyer and litigants.
