The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested Jaywant Mane, senior PI of Dindoshi police station, for accepting a bribe of Rs50,000 from an accused.

Mane was caught red-handed after the complainant approached the ACB. On April 30, the Social Service Branch, along with the local police, had conducted a raid on a gambling den in Dindoshi. However, the accused in the case was shown as absconding in the police records.

Vishwas Nangre Patil, additional CP of ACB, said, "After the raid, Mane asked the complainant to cough up Rs2 lakh as bribe to not to show him as the accused. After negotiations, the complainant agreed to pay Rs1.50 lakh."

Following this, the complainant approached the ACB and a trap was laid. "Our officers asked him to go to Mane with Rs50,000. We caught him red-handed while accepting the money," said Patil.

The ACB has also recovered a sum of Rs4.92 lakh from Mane's office chamber. No recovery has been made from his home.

Mane has been remanded in ACB custody till Monday. Prima facie, Mane does not have any previous records of crime. "We will be writing a letter to the commissioner of police with details of the case and seeking Mane's suspension from the force. Mane is in the last lap of his career," added Patil.
