A Vile Parle-based woman had approached the police last month stating that someone had created bogus Facebook profiles of her and had put her contact details and obscene content on the said profiles, leading harassment to her from unknown persons. The investigation revealed that the said profiles were created by none other than ex-girlfriend of the victim’s brother. Since the two had a break-up on a bitter note, the accused woman, in order to teach her ex-boyfriend a lesson, allegedly prepared four bogus Facebook profiles.

The arrested woman has been identified as Aarti Jadhav, 22, a resident of Santosh Nagar in Goregaon (E). Jadhav is a commerce graduate.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ashutosh Dumbare, a Vile Parle-based woman had approached Vile Parle police on June 23, stating that she had learnt that few bogus Facebook profiles of her was created on which her mobile number, her sister’s photograph and obscene photographs were posted.

“As per the complainant, through those bogus profiles, friend requests were sent to her friends and relatives. Because of this, the victim claimed she had been receiving several calls from unknown numbers leading to her mental harassment,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detection, Nisar Tamboli.

Probe initiated by inspectors Sanjay Salunkhe and Vitthal Choughule revealed that the said four bogus Facebook profiles were created between May 6 and June 09. The police then sought details of the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to create bogus profiles and zeroed in on Jadhav. Jadhav was apprehended on Sunday and was handed over to Vile Parle Police for further probe.

“Jadhav had an affair with victim’s brother for past eight years. They later had break up twice after which victim’s brother married to some other woman in May 2018. Irked with this, Jadhav created bogus profiles with the intention to defame her ex-boyfriend’s sisters.
